Aphasia - Language Disorder

Aphasic language and speech disorders can bring about tremendous impairments to the communication. They are frequently occur together with substantial psychological stress. In the music therapy treatment of those disorders functional language aspects as well as behavioral and psychological problems come into play.

The functional language-related level is on the one hand treated specificly with rhythmic training and on the other hand with singing. Musical songlike material serves as a language related brain stimulation.

On the psychological behavioral level motivation, emotionality and communicative behavior are addressed. Music here serves as a nonverbal medium of communication in the sense of compensation and relief and  as an analogue field of practice.
