The swallow alarm clock is a therapy aid for people with swallowing disorders, such as those that can occur with Parkinson's disease and other neurological diseases. He was from Stefan Mainka and Grit Mallien 2009 at the Parkinson's Clinic Beelitz-Heilstätten developed.
If swallowing is impaired, the frequency of swallowing is often reduced. At the same time, swallowing is actually an involuntary process outside of eating times, like breathing or blinking. We don't have to worry about it. It just happens. However, if the swallowing frequency is reduced, this can lead to saliva running out of the mouth again and again - even unnoticed. A very unpleasant thing for those affected!
In therapy, an attempt is made to revive the missing swallowing reflex. The motto here is: First swallow, then dab! The sip alarm clock can help here. The audio signals act as an acoustic reminder to swallow. You can turn it on, for example, while reading the newspaper in the morning. This keeps reminding you to swallow. Used regularly, this can help increase swallowing frequency and intensity.
